What is the NSS???
The National Student Survey (NSS) is quickly approaching. It has been running annually since 2005. It is a survey aimed at final year undergraduates, with the main purpose to help inform the choices of prospective higher education students about where and what to study. Participating institutions and students’ unions also make use of the data to improve the student learning experience.
Why Bother with the NSS???
National student survey results showed 81% of last years students were satisfied with their overall experience at university. The more students who fill in the survey the more representative the results will be. After the survey is completed and results published our students’ union and the University will work together to improve the experience for our students, it’s a chance to speak up and give your opinion of your course.
But How do I do it?
The students’ union will be going around each campus advertising the NSS, to encourage students to fill in the survey online. Presentations shall be held for all final year students in order to explain how the NSS works, how to approach it, and how to leave fair accurate feedback.
The survey is divided into seven areas:
• The teaching on my course
• Assessment and feedback
• Academic support
• Organisation and management
• Learning resources
• Personal development
• Overall satisfaction
The majority of the questions ask you torate the accuracy of the questioning statement on a scale of one to five; one being to strongly disagree and five to strongly agree.
Will it take long?
Students who filled in the survey last year clamed it only took about ten minutes to complete. Posters will go up and participation will be encouraged. It’s a chance for you to anonymously feed back to the university what’s great, and which areas may need reviewing. And finally, some promotional prizes have been provided for distribution at the
presentations. To qualify all you have to do is turn up. I look forward to seeing you in the presentations.
