An interview with KC:
So Kaceigh, So what’s your role?
My role as Welfare Officer is to look after the general welfare of all students including many areas of student life from housing, finance, health, liberation, campaigns just to name a few...
Why did you choose SMU?
I chose Swansea Met because of the close knit community feel it had, from brilliant contact time to the small classes it had to offer. Of course Swansea Bay and Mumbles was an instant winner too!
What did you miss most from home?
In the first couple of weeks I was too busy enjoying myself and getting involved with Freshers I didn’t miss a thing. Missing friends and family is a given... but I miss homemade roast dinners!
Why did you get involved in the Students’ Union?
I got involved in the Students’ Union in my 2nd year. I loved getting involved in as many things as I could, from volunteering, helping move freshers in, running campaigns and meeting the same minded students as myself.
What’s your plan for this year?
My big campaign this year is Mental Health and Wellbeing! It’s going to be massive! It’s going to include sports and societies, revision, stress and exam techniques, sexual health, healthy eating and drinking… anything you can think of! So get involved.
What advice would you give to the new freshers?
If you are living in halls make sure you keep your door open when you’re in your room so people can come in and say hey!! If you are living at home or in private rented accommodation get involved with as many freshers events as you can possibly manage, its a great way to meet new friends which you might have not have had the chance to otherwise.
Why should new students get involved in Societies, Sports Teams, Course Reps, Council?
I only spent one year involved in sports playing women’s football, I wasn’t any good at it, but it was a fantastic way to make new friends, get involved with a bigger network of people and to release some stress and to get fit. Being involved with the Union has been one of the best things about coming to University.
What are the best Swansea Met SU events you have ever attended?
Most def Freshers Fortnight and the Active Ball and Summer Ball.
Isn’t the Union just about Sports teams and drinking?
No the Union is a lot bigger than sports and drinking! The needs of students have changed, and the union is about reflecting that! Of course we still provide lots of sports opportunities and lots of fun nights out, but it’s also about your whole student experience, from advice on your course, and welfare advice to representing you at university and helping you the change things within your course.
Tell us something we didn’t know about you...
I really can’t do pub quizzes.... only ever pick me for your team if you want a giggle!!!
